Amuro Namie performed on BEST HITS FESTIVAL 08!

Amuro Namie appeared on BEST HIT SONG FESTIVAL 2008! She performed New Look.
In what has become a rare appearance, Namie performed on BEST HITS Kayousai, one of the many end-of-the-year specials. However, she did not appear at the venue and instead performed live from another location.

Amuro Refuses Kouhaku Offer

Namie Amuro along with Southern All Stars, Hikaru Utada, B’z and Mariya Takeuchi were all in discussions with organizers behind this year’s Kouhaku Utagassen but negotiations with each artist yielded no results and none of them will appear on this year’s show. Amuro has appeared on the program a total of ten times, once as a backup dancer for singer Hiroko Moriguchi in 1993 and as a solo artist from 1995 to 2003. In 2004, she was offered an invitation to the program but refused to participate.

In actual appearance news, SPEED who reunited this summer will take part in this year’s festivity. It will be their first appearance on the show since 1999. Appearing on the show for the first time ever will be Mr.Children, who like Amuro, refused several offers before agreeing to appear on this year’s show.

Maximum Update

Since, I’ve missed a few things that have been going on with MAX over the last couple of weeks, I’ll update everything that has been reported and has come out since that time.

Comeback Appearance

MAX made their first public appearance with Mina on October 30 with a performance and interview on Tokudane. They performed their #1 hit single, “Give me a Shake.” You can watch it below:


Following the performance, they were interviewed about their new album and their upcoming live concert on January 31, 2009.

New Releases

Speaking of a new album, MAX will be releasing a self-cover album entitled “NEW EDITION ~MAXIMUM HITS~” on December 10th, 2008. It will contain 12 of their hits remixed and rearranged. It will also a brand new song entitled, “Are you ready?.” The song is written and produced by Clazziquai Project who will also be remixing “Hikari no VEIL” on the album. People who buy the album will be able to go to Lawson and print out a MAX poster card free. This offer is limited and only available in Japan.

Comeback Concert

MAX will be performing a one-night only show at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya. The event entitled, “MAX PRESENTS LIVE CONTACT 2009 ~NEW EIDTION~” will be their first public concert since their last tour eight years ago.

According to Barks Japan article, BEST FICTION is the #1 best selling album of 2008 at the 1,357 Tsutaya stores nationwide, winning EXILE, B'z and Utada Hikaru! 60s70s80s is also the #10 best selling single of 2008

20,000 Cast Amuro a Favorite Artist

In a new poll which surveyed 20,000 people about who their favorite artist was, Namie Amuro came in at #7. She makes a dramatic 14 place jump from last year’s poll that found the artist at #21. Of the artist listed in the top 20, she makes the most significant jump second only to EXILE who came in at #13 this year after jumping 16 places. Filling up the positions higher than Amuro are Utada at #1, Kubokuro #2, aiko at #3, Mr.Children at #4, Dreams Come True at #5 and Southern All Stars at #6.

TK Arrest Aftermath… TK Family Shutout

On November 4th, Tetsuya Komuro, former producer of Namie Amuro, was arrested on suspicion of fraud by selling the copyright to songs he wrote, but did not own. Some of these songs included Amuro’s largest single success, “CAN YOU CELEBRATE?” which sold over 2 million copies and remains the largest selling single released by a solo female singer. Because of Komuro’s arrest two new releases by globe, his group with wife KEIKO and writing partner MARC, have been cancelled. Radio stations across Japan as well as USEN karaoke services have banned the airing of Komuro’s music and as of the November 5 it has been confirmed that this includes music that Komuro produced for other artist. For the time being, radio stations will stop playing music by Namie Amuro, Tomomi Kahala, TRF and all other Komuro associated artist.

Since Komuro’s arrest, several of those close to him have made statements. However, VISION FACTORY the management company of Namie Amuro and Alisa Mizuki, who at one time was also produced by TK, released a statement to the press that neither artist wish to comment regarding the arrest of their former producer.

Boots Queen Again

Amuro Namie Boots Queen Again!!

In a new poll with the beauty and health department of the Oricon, Namie has been named the #1 female celebrity boot wearer. Namie known for her knee-high boots outranked fellow Okinawa Actor’s School album, Yuu Yamada who came in at #2 as well as model Karina.

Some comments on the polls include a response from a 21 year old female from Tokyo stating that Namie was the most suited celebrity towards boots and that it was fantastic that she could dance in them. Another 22 year old respondent also from Tokyo, commented that Namie’s style was good and that her feet are thin which helps make boots match her well.
