BEST FICTION won Best Album Award!!!

BEST FICTION recently won the 'Best Album' award from the 50th Japan Record Awards. Amuo Namie won the same award 12 years ago with SWEET 19 BLUES! The award ceremony will be held on the 30th and aired on TBS networks, but it is still unconfirmed whether Amuro Namie will attend the ceremony.

Amuro Namie not attending 59th Kouhaku!

Amuro Namie will not be appearing on this year 'ＮＨＫ紅白歌合戦' (Kouhaku Utagassen). Amuro Namie refused to appear in Kouhaku since 2004 and usually spent her new year eve overseas or with her son.

Amuro Namie Wins Best Album

Namie Amuro has won the Best Album Award from Japan’s most reputable award committee, Japan Record Awards. It has been 12 years since she first won the award with her groundbreaking, “SWEET 19 BLUES” album. In previous years, she’s also taken home the committees biggest award, The Grand Prix Award, twice in 1996 and 1997. She is still the youngest artist to ever receive the honor. In 2000, Amuro received an honorary award. The award ceremony will be held on the 30th and aired on TBS networks. No word if Amuro will actually appear.

“BEST FICTION” debuted at #1 in the summer of 2008 and remained #1 for six consecutive weeks. No other solo female artist had accomplished such a feat in over 20 years. The album helped Amuro set a new record becoming the only artist to ever achieve a million selling album across three age brackets, her teens, twenties, and thirties. “BEST FICTION” is the best selling album released in 2008 and has sold 1.6 million units since its release. For the Oricon year, Amuro is currently #2 and Oricon has the album at 1.43 million units esclipsed only by EXILE’s “EXILE LOVE” released late 2007. Amuro is currently touring the nation on what is said to be the largest tour of her career, playing to a potential 400,000 concert goers.

Amuro Namie performed on BEST HITS FESTIVAL 08!

Amuro Namie appeared on BEST HIT SONG FESTIVAL 2008! She performed New Look.
In what has become a rare appearance, Namie performed on BEST HITS Kayousai, one of the many end-of-the-year specials. However, she did not appear at the venue and instead performed live from another location.

Amuro Refuses Kouhaku Offer

Namie Amuro along with Southern All Stars, Hikaru Utada, B’z and Mariya Takeuchi were all in discussions with organizers behind this year’s Kouhaku Utagassen but negotiations with each artist yielded no results and none of them will appear on this year’s show. Amuro has appeared on the program a total of ten times, once as a backup dancer for singer Hiroko Moriguchi in 1993 and as a solo artist from 1995 to 2003. In 2004, she was offered an invitation to the program but refused to participate.

In actual appearance news, SPEED who reunited this summer will take part in this year’s festivity. It will be their first appearance on the show since 1999. Appearing on the show for the first time ever will be Mr.Children, who like Amuro, refused several offers before agreeing to appear on this year’s show.

Maximum Update

Since, I’ve missed a few things that have been going on with MAX over the last couple of weeks, I’ll update everything that has been reported and has come out since that time.

Comeback Appearance

MAX made their first public appearance with Mina on October 30 with a performance and interview on Tokudane. They performed their #1 hit single, “Give me a Shake.” You can watch it below:


Following the performance, they were interviewed about their new album and their upcoming live concert on January 31, 2009.

New Releases

Speaking of a new album, MAX will be releasing a self-cover album entitled “NEW EDITION ~MAXIMUM HITS~” on December 10th, 2008. It will contain 12 of their hits remixed and rearranged. It will also a brand new song entitled, “Are you ready?.” The song is written and produced by Clazziquai Project who will also be remixing “Hikari no VEIL” on the album. People who buy the album will be able to go to Lawson and print out a MAX poster card free. This offer is limited and only available in Japan.

Comeback Concert

MAX will be performing a one-night only show at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya. The event entitled, “MAX PRESENTS LIVE CONTACT 2009 ~NEW EIDTION~” will be their first public concert since their last tour eight years ago.
